Rolling, Rolling, Rolling ...

I have no idea why we wish for our children to become mobile. My life was so much simpler when Fiona was stationary. For a couple of months she has been rolling over. However, she pretty much just rolled around in one spot. She didn't use this skill to get anywhere. She would scoot herselves in circles or roll over to reach a toy just out of reach, but for the most part I could put her down and walk away to put in another load of laundry or something and I would come back and she would be relatively in the same spot.

I miss those days.

She figured out recently that rolling can actually get you to places. You can simply roll to the things Mommy doesn't want you to get into or the dogs who just want a nap. I was so excited for all of 5 seconds when she first rolled across the living room. Then the frantic baby proofing began. No more cords on the ground anywhere and the baby gate had to go up. Sheesh.

I was not ready for this. Fiona is supposed to stay my little baby, not grow up. She has even made a few attempts to get up on her hands and knees. I am definitely not ready for a crawling baby. Either are the dogs. They were also quite surprised the first time she came rolling up to them. Nothing is safe anymore. She is a rolling fiend.

My baby is growing up ... sniff, sniff.

4 Months

I really can't believe that Fiona is 4 months old. These months seem to fly by. She definitely gets more personality every day, which is exciting and scary at the same time. She is very opinionated and very stubborn. Let's just say she knows what she wants and she is pretty good at getting it. Boy are we going to be in trouble when she gets older and wants more than just attention/fed/diaper changed. I can already hear the requests for a pony. Every day she wraps Nathan a little further around that cute little finger, so I can already tell that mommy is going to end up being the bad guy a lot. I really love watching them together. He is such a good dad.

For the first three months of her life, it was all mom all the time. In month number four she has definitely warmed up to her daddy. She loves it when he flies her around like an airplane. She giggles and coos at him. Fiona also loves laying in bed and talking to him in the morning when she wakes up. This last week she has only let her daddy do bedtime. She doesn't want me to put her to bed, but she will fall right asleep for her daddy. That has been frustrating in some ways and wonderful in other ways (I get a little alone time while he does bedtime).

I took her to her 4 month check-up on Monday and she weighed in at a whopping 12 pounds 5 ounces, which is the 21st percentile, and she was 23.75 inches long, which is the 29th percentile. Moving up the chart on weight, but she is still a little peanut. Everything looked good at the doctor's. She got her 4 month shots, which was quite traumatic. She was laying there all happy, talking to the nurses. Then they stuck her and man can that kid scream. She had a pretty rough rest of the day/night and next day with a fever, a major case of the grumpies, and trouble sleeping. She seems to be over that now and back to her usual self. She had a hard time with the 2 month shots as well. We are not looking forward to the next batch. The pediatrician okayed her to start solid foods, but we are going to hold off for awhile. The ped agreed since she is growing fine and we have a history of digestive problems in the family, inluding celiac, that it would be best to wait closer to 6 months for her first solids. That is just fine with me, less dishes to do.

She has been a busy girl this month. She learned how to roll over. She mostly goes from her tummy to her back, but I've seen her go back to tummy a couple of times. Since she figured out rolling she is much happier during tummy time and when she starts to get angry she just flips herself over. She has really started to like to sit up and be more vertical. So we got her an exersaucer, which I thought she might be a little young for. She showed me. We have to wrap her in blankets and put something under her feet so she can use it, but she LOVES it. She had all the toys figured out the first day. She even figured out how to turn herself around to the toys she likes the best. Apparently, her silly mommy was holding her back.

Fi and I went to a Baby Maestro class with our MOM friends the other day. It is a class for little kids and their parent, where they sing and dance and interact with music. It was a lot of fun. Fiona seemed to really enjoy herself, which was no surprise because one of her favorite things to do is listen to music and dance. She was dancing to music well before she was born. We hope to get to go to another Baby Maestro class in the future, until then we'll keep getting our groove on in the living room.

Each month has been more fun than the last. I love watching my peanut grow. If she would just stop growing before she stops liking to snuggle with her mommy that would be great.

Busy, busy, busy

We've had a busy couple of weeks, which is nothing out of the ordinary. We've been to play dates, St Patrick's Day parties, and moms' night outs. We've dealt with a broken dryer, a clogged sink, and some very cranky/loud neighbors.

Fiona and I had a fantastic time at a St. Patrick's Day party with our MOM friends. It was a full house, but lots of fun. Then after a good nap we headed over to my parent's house for some more St Paddy's Day fun. We had some delicious corned beef and cabbage (minus the cabbage for me) and some Irish coffee. Fiona was pretty grumpy while we were over there, I think she was a little partied out. She did stay happy long enough to snap a family photo.

So our dryer definitely is broken. It has been a whole week with no dryer. I was walking through the hallway and smelled something burning. The scent of course led to the dryer, which freaked me out. It would not be good to have the dryer burn down our house. So it is not working and no word back from the landlord if it will be fixed soon or at all. I have made 2 trips to Mom's house to do laundry and since there were a couple of nice days I also hung out some clothes on the clothesline. Since the dryer took a break we also took a break from cloth diapers for a couple days. I did finally wash all the dirty diapers and hang them up to dry. I wish I had taken a picture because that was a lot of diapers blowing in the breeze. Keep your fingers crossed that our dryer gets fixed soon because I am NOT going to the laundromat and the good weather isn't likely to hold out in March in Nebraska.

Mom and I went to a kid's consignment sale and picked up a few cute clothes and an exersaucer. I was excited for the exersaucer because she is starting to want to be more upright and not be as entertained by the swing or the bouncy seat. She is a little too short/small for the exersaucer right now, but I'm sure it won't be too long before she fits in it.

Fiona has been rolling over like crazy this week. She has now mastered tummy to back and back to tummy. It is quite entertaining to watch, but she is becoming mobile which means nothing is safe. It also means my baby is growing up, which I am definitely not ready for. Fiona loves naked time and laughs like crazy when you tickle her. Nathan caught a cute little video the other day.

Rough Week

So we are currently weathering our first baby illness. On Friday I got a bad cold, which was still full swing on Sunday. I felt pretty awful and prayed that Fiona wouldn't get sick. She had been a little congested for a week, so I thought she might of given it to me. Apparently that wasn't the case. Monday morning she was coughing and running a low fever. She's been coughing and feverish since then, with not much solid sleeping going on. It has been rough. She just wants to cuddle with me and rock. It looks like we might be heading to the end of the worst part though.

Poor baby. Last week she got picked on and got vaccinations, now she has a cold. The shots were awful to watch. She screamed bloody murder for a good 1/2 hour afterwards. Then she ran a fever the rest of the day and was extremely fussy the next day.

Now that Fiona is starting to feel better it looks like Nathan has caught the plague. Our house is just a germ paradise. With all the illness going around, no dishes or laundry have been done in almost a week. It looks like a disaster zone. Of course I could be trying to tackle the piles, but it is just too overwhelming for tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

So on Saturday we have a formal dinner for Nathan's work, and I have nothing to wear. I still don't fit into my pre-pregnancy clothes (those darn last 10 lbs are proving difficult to get rid of). I am going to have to brave the mall with baby in tow. Here is hoping that I can find a dress on the clearance rack. I'm not looking forward to the shopping trip. Mom and Dad are watching Fiona that night. After a week and a half of being cooped up at home being sick and taking care of a sick baby, I am looking forward to a night out with grown-ups and a good dinner with a drink.
